The Emérita Solar plants, along with Tremisol Solar, are the first solar plants inaugurated by BNZ in Mérida, Extremadura (Spain). Together, they have a total capacity of 19.2 MW, evenly divided into 9.6 MW each.
Both facilities cover a combined area of 36 hectares and contribute to renewable energy production in the region. Their operation will prevent the emission of approximately 10,000 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to the emissions from 18,000 flights between Barcelona and Brussels.
The construction of the Emérita and Tremisol plants has generated 140 direct and indirect jobs, thanks to collaboration with 14 local companies.
Respect for local communities is one of the fundamental pillars of BNZ’s identity. The company has partnered with local authorities to implement various projects aimed at protecting the region’s fauna and flora.
Key initiatives include the annual radio tracking of two white storks from a nearby colony during the first five years of operations; monitoring birdlife around the plant to track amphibian and reptile populations inside and outside the facility; and installing beehives to conserve bees—a species crucial to biodiversity, food security, and the global economy—which face threats from climate change, pesticide use, and habitat loss.
The company also considers social development essential for community well-being. In this regard, BNZ actively supports the Iuxtanam Sports Club in Mérida. For its members, the club is more than a sports facility; through canoeing programs and sports training, it promotes integration, education in values, and environmental awareness, fostering a healthy and responsible lifestyle aligned with BNZ’s values.
Beyond sports, since 2023, BNZ has partnered with the NGO Ayuda en Acción to enhance the employability of young people in vocational training, especially those in vulnerable situations. This initiative is part of the “Proyecto Impulsa” (“Boost Project”), promoted by BNZ to provide students with essential career skills, psychological support, and professional guidance.
