MEET THE TEAM – JOAQUÍN MORENO
- What is your role in BNZ?
I work as Financial Controller in the finance department of BNZ. My role involves the preparation and review of financial statements, management of bank guarantees, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, and reporting, among other responsibilities. In addition, I collaborate with other departments to support strategic decision-making based on financial data.
- How long have you been working in the renewable energy sector?
I have been involved in the renewable energy sector for almost my entire professional career, which started exactly 3 years ago. I spent two and a half years at PwC in the energy sector as an auditor, and when I joined BNZ, I continued my journey in renewables.
- How do you think the sector has changed in these years?
The sector has experienced exponential growth, driven by increasing private investment, public support, falling costs, and new innovations flooding the market, all of which have led to significant growth in installed capacity.
- What are the main challenges for the sector in the coming years?
I believe the main challenges will stem from raw material scarcity, regulatory changes, price volatility and the increasing emergence of competitors.
- And in the long term?
The key to the sector’s future is linked to the development of batteries and the possibility of being able to store energy on large scale. This could be decisive.
- What does BNZ have that its competitors don’t?
BNZ is a young company made up of very talented and experienced professionals in the sector, which I think is very important. Moreover, as an added value, we aim to involve local communities in our projects to create a perfect balance between nature, local communities, and investment.
- How do you see BNZ in 5 years?
In the next five years, I envision our company as a leader in the industry, with sustainable growth and a solid reputation in the market. I expect we will have implemented technological innovations that will allow us to improve our processes, resulting in extraordinary results.
- Which countries are making greater efforts for photovoltaic energy?
Spain is a clear example of a country that is betting heavily on renewable energies; it is true that the climatic conditions are favourable, but emerging countries like India, Brazil, and China have become true powers in renewables.
- What would you ask public administrations to promote this type of clean energy?
I would ask them to reduce as much bureaucracy as possible, as it delays projects and increases costs. It’s important to improve efficiency and effectiveness in business-government relations.
- And the citizens?
I would ask them to trust and collaborate with us so we can adapt to their lifestyles and add value to them. Our goal is to drive change, but not at any price, so we need their help and cooperation to invest without negatively impacting their communities.
- What do you do in your day to day to reduce your carbon footprint?
I usually use public transport for most activities, and when possible, I walk. I believe individual awareness is important, but real change must come from companies, which are the ones that really pollute on a large scale, especially outside of western countries.
